Tembec reaches agreement with Kapuskasing employees

TembecTembec reached an agreement with its employees from its Kapuskasing, Ontario newsprint mill, sawmill and forest operations.

Tembec employs 582 employees in Kapuskasing – 498 of which are unionized.

This collective agreement covers a 5-year contract that will expire in April 2017. “This agreement would not have been achieved without the support and hard work from all Local union leaderships, as well as those at the National and International levels,” stated Marc Tremblay, Tembec Chief Negotiator.

Tentative agreement reached at Spruce Falls in Kapuskasing

CEP Locals 256 and 89 have reached a tentative agreement with Tembec at the Spruce Falls mill in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

The union executives are recommending to their members that they accept the offer.

Members are being urged to attend a special meeting today April 25th at 4:00 pm at the Knights of Columbus Hall for information on the agreement and to vote on the agreement.

Strike postponed for 48 hours in Kapuskasing, ON

Tembec and its unions are using a mediator to help resolve the labour dispute at its Spruce Falls mill in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

Strike action has been delayed for 48 hours, until April 26 at 6pm.

2 of 5 unions working at the mill have rejected the last contract offer. The CEP locals representing workers inside the mill have rejected the contract. Forest workers and office workers were among the unions to accept the new 5-year contract that includes a wage freeze.

Machines shutting down at Tembec in Kapuskasing, Ontario in preparation for a strike

TembecThere are mixed reports coming out of Kapuskasing, Ontario this afternoon. There are been reports the workers at Tembec have been locked out, but the local media is saying there is no lock out at this time.

2 of 5 unions rejected Tembec’s latest contract offer over the weekend.

One report indicates that the machines are being shut down today, and that employees were sent home at noon due to concern that the stressful atmosphere in the mill could lead to unsafe work conditions.

Port Hawkesbury workers vote ‘yes’ to contract offer

The unionized workers of the idled Port Hawkesbury paper mill in Nova Scotia have voted 85% in favour of their contract offer from Pacific West Commercial Corp.

This ‘yes’ vote brings the mill one step closer to reopening under its new owner.

Marc Dube, spokesman for Pacific West Commercial Corp. said he would now turn his attention to working with Nova Scotia Power regarding energy supply and costs and with government regarding fibre supply and a forest management plan.

Port Hawkesbury workers will vote this week. Union recommends ‘yes’ vote

The workers of the former NewPage Port Hawkesbury mill in Nova Scotia have decided to vote on their offer from Pacific West Commercial Corp.

Some improvements have been made to the offer, including sections that cover seniority rights and vacation pay.

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union is recommending that the workers accept the offer that will see just 229 unionized employees return to work with the new owner.

Port Hawkesbury union meeting delayed until tomorrow due to “new information”

Today the unionized workers of the Port Hawkesbury mill in Nova Scotia were scheduled to meet again to discuss their contract offer from Pacific West Commercial Corp.

However, that meeting has now been postponed until Sunday (tomorrow).

Steve MacDougall, the recording secretary with CEP Local 972, said they have received new information from the company.

Update: Port Hawkesbury workers taking time to consider offer

At tonight’s meeting of the unionized workers of the former NewPage Port Hawkesbury mill, the employees were presented their offer from Pacific West Commercial Corp.

The workers have decided to take some time to consider the offer and will reconvene at a meeting on Saturday afternoon.

It is expected that the workers will decide on Saturday if they wish to vote on the offer.

Details of contract offer in Port Hawkesbury

The unionized workers of the Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia paper mill are meeting this evening to discuss the contract offer they have received from Pacific West Commercial Corp.

The workers will be deciding if they want to vote on the proposed contract.

Without an agreement, Pacific West Commercial Corp. will not restart the mill, and will instead liquidate the mill’s assets.

Contract proposal on the table in Port Hawkesbury, NS

After 16 days of meetings between Stern Partners (Pacific West Commercial Corp.) and the CEP representing the workers of the former NewPage Port Hawkesbury mill, a contract proposal is on the table.

At a meeting tomorrow night (Thursday), the workers will be presented with the details of the proposed contract.

Workers will not vote on the proposal at the meeting, but they will decide if they want to vote at a future date.
