AbitibiBowater is planning to indefinitely idle one of the two paper machines at its Thorold South facility in Ontario.
100 people will be laid off. The machine will be idled on April 12.

Fifteen people have been laid off in Corner Brook at Kruger's paper mill.
All 15 are said to have been non-unionized managers.

Kruger Inc. is extending the shutdown of the #3 paper machine at its Wayagamack Mill in Trois-Rivières, Quebec for a period of five weeks starting February 23rd.

Now that the lock out has been declared over at Tembec's Pine Falls paper mill, layoff notices are on their way to the workers this week.

Tolko scheduled two weeks of downtime as a holiday curtailment at its Armstrong and Soda Creek mills in British Columbia.

The Alexandre Lemay & Sons sawmill in St-Bernard, Quebec was destroyed by fire on Sunday.
Firefighters fought the blaze for hours but the building was completely destroyed. A propane-powered generator is believed to be the cause of the fire.… more »
