I guess N.S Government hand outs don`t go as far as they did years ago? That N.S premier should be ashamed to give that money to them greedy b$stards and let them shut it down on dime of the taxpayers and workers.
You were all told this before…..the govt better stop handing out money to this company, it is dead, like Sydney Steel was dead when they dumped money into that, which we are still paying for…I’m sick of it
The Mersey mill is only running because the vote last year was a shock to them and allowed them to say….ummm…Ok that was a shocker…. lets get us some government money on top of super concessions from our employees (union ones only of course)….till the day they run it in the ground because a business cant run like that, especially paper……you have to be super efficient and run non stop to make a go nowadays……So in short, they are running it as long as they can milk money….but mark my words…..it’s all over for Mersey and pulp and paper in general under the Resolute flag! (You all should be wondering why they want Fibrek so bad!)
I think what the government did for the Mersey mill was a blessing to a lot of employees. Yup they announced another shut down, but the days of running mills to make paper & not having sales for it are gone, the 70s & 80s are gone. If you are working there now & are whinning it is not the company’s fault it is YOURS. Employees were offered 2 chances of severence THAT was your OUT. The ones who wanted to stay working but due to health reasons are getting the shaft – shame on the company who can keep them employed but screwed them out of their benefits. To me you are blaming the wrong government Nova Scotia. This government at least had a heart to try & keep the forest industry alive & people working. What did HARPER do for YOU???? Harper bailed the Auto Industry out, When it came to the Forest Industry Harper says JUST LEAVE IT ALONE & IT WILL ALL SETTLE ITSELF OUT!!!! Why because the auto industry is INTERNATIONAL. Well now you are part of HARPERS plan you are getting settled out. They are still hiring out west pull up stakes & move along if you don’t wanna work there. I bet there will be people who would be more than willing to come take your place. People who have worked alot harder for a lot less. When it comes down to whinning about the ones who voted yes — well it seems like some of the ones who voted NO are still working there you should have all quit & see if that would have shut her down or whether workers from another province who worked at a closed mill would have moved in & saved it. New Page employees got hit hard as well WORSE THAN HERE but they accepted it & there are still not sure they will have a job. Well I had my ramble, I just think Dexter did a good thing to CYA I am a tax payer as well I will vote for him again! But I didn’t the last time & I won’t the next time vote for HARPER. HE IS THE ONE WHO FAILED THE FOREST INDUSTRY NOT DEXTER!!!
Hey thematic it the mill will be down for at least 11 of the next 30 weeks.how many trades people are going to stay around and live like this. I am sure the mill is thanking Mr Dexter for all the play money he has given them.
PS thank you Mr Harper for not being caugh up in this trap.
