So Destitute Forest Prodders sends its employees a letter saying their pension is under funded by 71 million dollars. This letter arrives the same week they offer to buy Fibrek’s 3 pulp mills for 71 million dollars. Also the same week they announced down time to the pulp mills in Fort Frances and Thunder Bay. WTF is wrong with this picture.
On the plus side the letter in merely a scare tactic to help ensure a Yes vote when they hand us the Lord have Mercey contract. If they go bankrupt the pension will remain under funded. If they close the mill they have 5 years to full fund that portion of the plan. It’s called a partial wind up.
