The Manitoba Labour Board has ordered an end to the 4.5 month lock out of the workers at the Tembec newsprint mill in Pine Falls, Manitoba.
The workers were locked out in September when they rejected Tembec's proposal of steep wage cuts (35%).
Wayne Skrypnyk, area supervisor with the United Steelworkers, said it doesn’t mean the 270 unionized workers will get their jobs back.
The labour board ruling likely means that the company will issue layoff notices to the employees, allowing them to apply for employment insurance benefits, Skrypnyk said.
Tembec announced in December that it was putting the mill up for sale and has no intention of reopening the facility.
