Domtar has decided to close its Ear Falls, Ontario sawmill indefinitely.
The sawmill will close in October and 130 employees will be out of work. Harvesting will also cease.
Domtar based their closure decision on the slowdown in the North American construction industry and the decreased demand for softwood lumber. Additionally, Domtar mentioned the exchange rate and high operating costs of the sawmill as factors in the decision.
The sawmill just restarted last week after a 4 month shutdown.
