50 members of a forest fire fighting crew were recently fired because of safety violations and alleged illegal drug use.
The firefighters had been working at the Tyaughton Lake fire in the mountains of southwestern British Columbia.
It is not clear how many firefighters were fired specifically because of the safety violations versus the alleged illegal drug use.
Regarding the safety violation, it is alleged that the company the crew were working for did not provide enough "danger tree assessors," who monitor the safety of trees in wildfire situations.
The firefighters were employed by three companies: Grayco, Frontline and Firestorm.
