Tolko Industries Lakeview Lumber Division mill in Williams Lake, British Columbia suffered a fire yesterday in its chips storage building that is adjacent to the main mill.
The fire was contained to that building and did not spread. Firefighters fought the fire for 3 hours yesterday afternoon.
Rob Fraser, general manager of Tolko’s Cariboo and Alberta lumber division, says the fire in the sawdust fuel bin was in between a laminated two-by-six inch wall, with metal cladding on the inside.
Due to that laminated wall, the fire wasn’t able to burn well.
The cause of the fire is not known. There was lots of smoke, but initial damage reports indicate only $5,000 of damage.
