Catalyst Paper is now threatening to take Port Alberni to court

Catalyst Paper has been threatening the city of Port Alberni that they would only be paying a portion of the taxes they owe.
Now company head Richard Garneau has warned Mayor Ken McRae that Catalyst Paper will taking the city of Port Alberni to court over the tax rate they feel is too high.
The company has made it clear for months that they intend to pay about $1.5 million of their more than $6 million assessed taxes. The taxes are due in July.

Up to this point the US mills have gotten away fairly safely.... that is about to change! The industry in Canada is close to being streamlined... the industry in the US without the subsidy is not! ......
