Provincial government and union leaders will meet today in Newfoundland
May 21, 2009 | In Mill Closures & Layoffs | 1 feedback »
The union leaders of AbitibiBowater's now-closed Grand Falls-Windsor mill will meet with members of the Newfoundland and Labrador government today to discuss severance pay.
The provincial government is working to quickly get the severance that AbitibiBowater owes its workers into their hands, and is willing to cover the amount. The government will only be paying out the severance and will not be paying other negotiated benefits such as holiday or vacation pay. Severance will be paid to the mill's workers, and to loggers and silviculturists employed by the company.
