Northern Pulp gets $15 million government loan

Northern Pulp in Pictou County, Nova Scotia is receiving a $15 million interest-bearing loan from the province of Nova Scotia to sustain its operation and to continue to provide employment to 650 people.
Formerly owned by Neenah Paper, Northern Pulp Nova Scotia Corp. was created in June 2008 to take over operation of the mill.
Approximately 250 people are employed by the mill, with another 400 direct contractors. Indirect jobs are estimated to be between 600-800 jobs.
Northern Pulp manufactures about 270,000 metric tonnes of softwood pulp, a raw material for manufacturing tissue and coated papers for writing and printing.
