There is a glimmer of hope for the creation of 40 jobs in Atikokan, Ontario.
Ed Fukushima, a life-long resident of Thunder Bay, and owner of MGM Electric, has plans to purchase the idled Fibratech facility and convert it into a plant that manufactures wood pellets and renewable fuel - products that Fukushima holds patents on.
The possible deal with Fukushima, the town of Atikokan, and the receivers is complex, and could take upwards of 90 days to finalize. Fukushima said if all goes according to plan, Atikokan Renewable Fuels could be in production in 6 months.
Converting the Fibratech mill for Atikokan Renewable Fuels' use will take nearly $15 million.
