With Tembec involved this isn't hard to understand. A review of the tonnes taken off of the market in 2008 (across all products in North America) shows a staggering loss.

Most in the industry are wondering if things really can turn around. Will demand pick up in some areas?

I heard on the radio that the pay cut got them another few months of work. Sure it's bad. The whole situation with markets is bad. That's the reality. If I ever had the choice to take a major pay cut in order to keep working, I would. This should not be viewed as a union/management issue. This is all about survival.
