The workers at Marathon Pulp in Northern Ontario have agreed to concessions.
The 2 year agreement includes:
- 12% wage cut
- elimination of extra pay for night-shift work
- vacations reduced by 1 week per year
- day-shift workers will see their time reduced by four hours every second week
The agreement was approved by a slight majority of the workers.
The concessions will begin by November 30th at the latest.
In a two-page document given to workers before voting began, the company said previous wage and benefit rates would be restored if average monthly earnings before interest, taxes and other expenses exceeded $1.25 million for six consecutive months.
