When Tolko shut down its Soda Creek mill on Monday for 2 weeks, they also suspended operations with some of its contractors.
Rob Fraser, general manager of Tolko’s Cariboo and Alberta lumber division, says Ilnicki Bros. Logging Ltd. and Jordef Enterprises Ltd. in Williams Lake were among the contractors to have their operations suspended.
Some contractors have had their volumes reduced, but are able to still continue their operations.
Because their U.S. market still hasn't picked up, Tolko may re-assess reopening their Soda Creek mill on November 2nd.
Tolko is planning to move its Williams Lake and Quesnel dimension mills to 4 day work weeks in early November. They have applied to Human Resource Development Canada for a work-share program.
