Weyerhaeuser's Carrot River and Hudson Bay mills in Saskatchewan have been idled since January 2007.
Weyerhaeuser announced their permanent closure today, after deciding that under current market conditions they could not commit any of their resources to idled facilities.
There were 15 remaining employees at the Carrot River softwood stud mill and 17 at the Hudson Bay softwood plywood mill. When both mills were fully operating before the shutdown, the Carrot River mill employed 116 and the Hudson Bay mill employed 183.
Both mills have been for sale since they were idled.
This is the third mill this week to be permanently closed by Weyerhaeuser. Just yesterday Weyerhaeuser announced it was closing a sawmill in Kamloops, British Columbia.
