Maybe now that the Tembec executives are giving away the company to the debt holders to get out of debt they can stop screwing over the employees to save a few dollars. They are backtracking on severance to the Cranbrook employees after assuring them the severance would be there when the mill was no longer needed. There is no more wood for the mill and there won't be anymore but Tembec still "needs the Cranbrook Planer." So no severance. They even went so far as to abruptly cut off the work in 2007 with 2 million feet of lumber in the yard to avoid having to pay full holiday pay in 2008 which everyone was counting on since they exhausted their EI claims in November. Remember Tembec was in financial difficulty before the markets went bad and the dollar went up. Dottori received his big retirement bonus when he left, now they back out out on promised severance for the lowly employees. Tembec, A company of people with no future.

Geez that sounds pretty grim, not paying severance. I see a lot of the forestry workers just leaving for Vancouver if these mills keep reducing. Is there much chance even if a mill re-opens of having a high paying stable job? You know these small towns will mainly shut down when the mill closes in their town. Tourism may work for a couple places, but really tourism is only a few low paying unstable jobs.

When a mill of 200 shuts down.. it probably is also 2000 other people in the town that will have to relocate.
